Updated November 2, 2026. This describes Write Around the Corner with accounts required for saving new writing.
Anyone can begin writing. Saving new writing to Atlas requires an account. When a guest finishes a piece, we keep a temporary recovery copy in this browser while signup and email confirmation are pending. It is not part of Atlas or uploaded simply by signing in: you choose Save to my account. The copy is removed after an acknowledged save or deliberate discard. Reloading this site in the same browser can restore it; another browser or device cannot recover it before the account save. If browser storage fails, we warn you to keep the page open and copy your text. Active unfinished writing remains memory-only. Anyone with access to this browser profile may read locally retained writing; clearing site data removes it. Older browser-only Atlas pieces stay local and are not transferred to an account. Only the latest finished guest piece can be saved through the signup flow.
Accounts are provided by Supabase. Your email and password are sent to Supabase for authentication. While signed in, your writing and its session metadata are sent to this app's Supabase database and associated with your account. Access rules restrict writing to its owner. Confirmed account saves can be read when you sign in on another browser or device. Google-linked writing stores the Google place ID rather than provider photos or coordinates.
Your browser stores an authentication session so you can stay signed in. Anyone with access to that browser profile may be able to use your account; sign out on shared devices. Account writing is not copied into the signed-out browser library. Signing out does not delete account writing or the older browser-only writing. Keep separate copies of important work; account storage does not promise recovery of unfinished or failed saves. Supabase's processing is described in its Privacy Policy.
Account confirmation and password-reset emails are delivered through Resend. Supabase provides the recipient address and authentication email content to Resend for delivery. Your writing text is not included in these emails. Resend's processing is described in its Privacy Policy.
Place search, map display, and place photos are provided by Google Maps Platform. Using these features connects your browser to Google, which receives data such as your search terms, requested place IDs, IP address, and browser information. Your writing text is not sent to Google by these features. We remember selected place IDs on this device; names, photos, and coordinates are fetched for display rather than stored permanently.
On a first visit, the app asks Google for a suggested place using an approximate area based on your IP address. This happens automatically without requesting browser location permission. Suggestions may be inaccurate, especially with a VPN or mobile network. You can change the place or search by name. Returning visits fetch the last accepted or selected place by its ID.
Browser location permission is requested only when you select “Use my current location.” If you allow access, your coordinates are sent to Google to find and select a nearby place. They are retained only in memory while this page is open so Shuffle can continue in the same area; they are not saved in browser storage. You can search by name without granting location access.
Google's processing is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can manage location permissions in your browser settings.
Reader's notes are generated from a fixed local pool of sample feedback. Requesting one does not send your writing to an AI service or a human reviewer.
